Rangers combined abrasive forward power with classy back play to eventually blow Queensbury away on Saturday. However, for the first quarter of the game, the visitors showed plenty of fight, leading 10-4, after an Oliver Peterkin try in the first minute.
Queensbury started to wilt in the heat though, Jordan Sild scoring a quick brace of tries to put Rangers back in front before Rangers scored the try of the game from deep in their own half, Great hands and vision from Ben Drennan found Peterkin in space, who sent Brad Pearson racing down the flank, the winger returning the compliment to Peterkin with an inside ball, taking a shot for his troubles in the process, the force of the collision, leaving many wondering how he got up.
Soon after, Peterkin completed his hat trick, scooping up a loose ball, and cantering 80 yards to the posts, to give Rangers a commanding halftime lead.
It was more of the same in the second half for Queensbury shortly after the restart the Rangers forced the mistake only twenty meters from their own line, eightmeters was no issue as Frankland from the scum found space to break the line sening Will Oldroyd into space with a final pass finding Danny McGrath in space to race over the tryline.
The Rangers forwards continued with the onslaught, the Bailey twins and Sild prominent, meaning spaces out wide were easy to find for the Rangers backline. Peterkin added a 4th try, Matty Bailey stormed to the line after good work from winger Oldroyd in space who once again skilfuly found room to provide the telling pass.
Drennan then showed his class by selling the defensive line a dummy pass creating space for him to race over from thirty out, very well deserved after playing provider all afternoon.
The icing on the cake for the Rangers was once again slick ball work down the short side of the field Franland breaking the line to put Peterkin into space who then returned the favour with simple hands into tight space leaving Pearson with a little work to do but he didn’t disappoint, diving into the corner to cap off his first team debut with a very well taken try right on the final whistle.
